The 1st stage and 2nd stage combination forms the heart of your breathing system. The 1st stage mounts directly onto your cylinder valve and reduces tank pressure to an intermediate level; the 2nd stage — the mouthpiece you breathe from — reduces that further to ambient pressure on demand. Buying a matched 1st and 2nd stage from the same manufacturer ensures optimal tuning and breathing performance.
